Moonglu Hand Built Bike Wheels

All Moonglu Wheelworks wheels are hand built in house by owner Neil Dunkley. They are laced, tensioned and trued using the same methods for each and every wheel. What started as a desire to build a set of wheels for a personal bike became a passion and solid part of our business. With over 15 years of wheel building experience and as keen cyclists ourselves, we provide the professional and impartial advice required when choosing custom cycle wheels. What specification are Moonglu wheels? Our wheels are built from the component parts, hub, spokes, rims and rim tape. Pro 5 hubs come boxed from Hope's factory over the border in Lancashire. Our spokes are usually Sapim Race stainless steel, double butted but we may substitute in DT Swiss Competition or Alpina Extralite where necessary. From 2021 we upgraded our spoke nipples to a secure lock, double square nipple in either alloy or brass. We have done this for a number of reasons. These include their compatibility with DT Swiss PH

Moonglu Bike Servicing Workshop

Moonglu operate a well respected bike servicing and repair workshop. With a combined experience of over 25 years between shop owner Neil and workshop manager Ben we are well placed to deal with most bikes. Servicing and repair work is carried out on site at Moonglu's shop in Blossomgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire. We are a respected shop with a reputation for efficient and high quality work. In most cases we will only use genuine or high quality replacement or parts. It is our opinion that our work should be noticed in the performance change in the bike after it has left our workshop. We both ride bikes a lot and it is through riding that we understand the mechanics of how a bike should be. Don't put up with poor gears, get them looked at, chances are it may only need a cable swap. The Moonglu workshop is not restricted by bike brand. Although we proudly display a Giant Bikes sign outside the shop, we are able to work on almost any brand of bike, old or new, good condition or bad,

Moonglu Road Cycling Routes in North Yorkshire

A list of our favourite road cycling rides in North Yorkshire. We ride many of these as part of Moonglu CC Thursday and Sunday Club Rides. All rides are published in Strava.  1. Moonglu CC Club Ride (modified) 30 miles with 1800ft of climbing. Quiet roads with 2 good climbs and some fast descents. Rides well at all times of year.  2. Red of the Redhawks Flat 29 mile loop that can be ridden both clockwise or anticlockwise. The loop was named in the early days of Strava and has stuck with the club although it is often shortened to Redhawks.   3. Moonglu CC Club 100 (2024 version) Our annual club social 100 mile route. Modified in 2024 to be more free flowing and sheltered from the wind. One of the flattest 100 mile rides in the UK. 4. Moonglu CC Hovingham Loop 5.
